Talking to Crazy
A book review by Astrid Ambroziak, of "Talking to Crazy" by Mark Goulston

book review“Heal the world one conversation at a time”
“The unexamined life is not worth living.”  - Socrates

Years ago, I had a privilege to find a book that has changed and continues to transform me.  The book is Just Listen, by Mark Goulston. The book has provided me with tools how to work and to live. Mark Goulston, M.D., is a business psychiatrist who over the past 30 years has worked with myriad companies teaching them emotional intelligence to succeed in the marketplace and in personal lives. Some of the companies Dr. Goulston has worked with are, Xerox, Goldman Sachs, IBM, Bloomberg, Kodak, Bank of America.

This year, I have been fortunate to come across another book by Mark Goulston, Talking to Crazy – How to Deal with the Irrational and Impossible People in Your Life.  With Just Listen, I was immediately drawn to the book by its title.  I wanted to be a better listener. With Talking to Crazy, the opposite happened: the title made me reluctant to read this book.  Because from my perspective, if something bothers me about others, I must change something within me first.  Yet, my curiosity prevailed and I devoured the book.  Mark Goulston is an amazing teacher. He is an empath first and being a psychiatrist, he understands “crazy” in each of us.  He doesn’t just label situations: Mark provides practical solutions.  Read More

1.    W.I.P. Matters: this quarterly newsletter is always looking for contributors to share best practices in the workplace, member based business cases that have yielded positive results or simply accomplishments either an organization or individual member has earned.  Submitting articles is a great way to share insight while taking advantage of promotion across the W.I.P. organization.
